PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
A Faith-Filled Start to Term 2
We’ve had a positive start to Term 2, with students returning eager to engage in learning and grow in their faith. This week, events brought our community together in prayer, remembrance, and celebration.
Last Tuesday, we celebrated the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, a powerful reminder of hope, renewal, and the strength found in faith. This time of reflection calls us to trust in God’s love and carry His light in all we do. On the same day, we gathered as a school community for an ANZAC Prayer service to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. A special thank you to the families and staff who joined us on April 25th for the ANZAC March. Your presence and support were greatly appreciated as we stood in unity and respect with the Bathurst community.
Finally, on Friday, we took time to honour Pope Francis's life and legacy, giving thanks for his faith, commitment to peace, and dedication to humanity. As a Catholic community, we pray that his compassion guides us as we strive to live out his legacy through kindness, humility, and service.
These powerful experiences reflect the heart of who we are as a school—gathered in love, faith, and shared purpose.

Why Attendance Matters – And Why We’re So Proud
Our Term 1 attendance data shows that every grade at Holy Family meets or exceeds the diocesan benchmark of 91%—an excellent reflection of the strong partnership between families and the school in supporting student learning. While this is an outstanding achievement, our goal remains for each student to maintain attendance above 95%. Regular attendance supports learning continuity, skill development, and the building of positive habits. Days missed can quickly add up to years of lost learning, which impacts not only academic progress but also the development of social and emotional skills. Thank you for prioritising school attendance, as every day truly counts!

SPB4L – Supporting School-Wide Positive Behaviour for Learning
As we begin Term 2, we remain focused on empowering our students in their faith, learning, and well-being. A key part of this is continuing our SPB4L work, shaped by student voice, which highlights three core principles:
Fair Teams, Fair Play, No Hands-on.
Our students are also learning about the No-Go-Tell strategy, introduced as part of the new CEDB PDHPE Teaching and Learning Program. This approach equips students with a clear, respectful way to respond to challenges:
- Say “No”- in a strong voice, if something feels wrong
- Go – walk away from the situation and try to stay calm.
- Tell – a trusted adult what happened.
This simple strategy helps children feel confident and empowered to protect themselves. Families can support these strategies at home by encouraging children to use them when managing conflict or facing challenges. By working together, we can help to build a calm, respectful, and connected school community where every child feels supported, safe, and confident.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MESSAGE
Welcome back to all our students and families. Term 2 is already shaping up to be a busy and exciting one, with a fantastic range of extra-curricular activities on offer.

We kicked off with the always competitive Spelling Bee, where students showcased their word skills and confidence in front of an enthusiastic audience. Next up was the engaging KidsLit Quiz held today in Orange, which saw teams tackling tricky literary questions with teamwork and enthusiasm. Meanwhile, our athletes showed incredible determination at the Diocesan Cross Country in Coolah, pushing themselves to achieve personal bests and cheering each other on throughout the day

Before the holidays, Year 1 students wrapped up Term 1 with a delightful excursion to Highland & Co Farm. It was a hands-on learning experience where students explored life on the farm, fed and patted friendly animals, and discovered where some of our everyday food comes from. It was a perfect way to end the term on a high note and tie into their learning about living things and environments.
These wonderful extracurricular opportunities are made possible thanks to the dedication of our staff, who work tirelessly behind the scenes to plan, coordinate, and support each event. Your efforts ensure that our students have access to such rich and memorable learning experiences beyond the classroom.
With the Rugby League Gala Day and HFS Athletic Carnivals still to come, Term 2 promises to be full of energy, learning, and school spirit!

REC NEWS
Following the Easter Season and the Passing of Pope Francis
As we begin Term 2, we take a moment to pause and pray together as a school community.
Loving God,
As we return to school after the Easter break, we thank You for the time to rest, reflect, and be renewed by the joy of the Resurrection.
Fill our hearts with hope and peace as we begin a new term of learning and growing together.
We remember with gratitude our beloved Pope Francis, who led us with humility, love, and faith.
Thank You for the gift of his life and leadership. May he rest now in Your eternal peace.
Comfort all those who mourn, and help us carry forward his example of mercy and compassion.
Bless our students, teachers, and families as we journey through Term 2.
Help us to be kind, patient, and joyful, walking always in the light of Christ.
We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord.
Amen.

As we returned to school for Term 2, our hearts were heavy with the sad news of the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis, on Easter Monday during the school holidays.
As a beloved global spiritual leader, Pope Francis was a powerful voice for compassion, justice, and care for those in need. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire us in our Catholic faith and in the way we teach, learn, and live together as a school community.
He reminded us of the importance of humility, love, and service—values that we strive to instil in our students daily. During this time of mourning and reflection for the wider Church, we have taken moments together to pause, pray, and honour his remarkable life.
We invite you to pray for Pope Francis, the Church, and our school community. May we remain united in faith, inspired by his kindness and courage throughout his leadership.
Our students have shown beautiful reverence in their reflections. A heartfelt thank you to our fantastic Year 6 students and teachers for preparing such a meaningful Resurrection liturgy on our first day back, Tuesday, 29 April. This was followed by our Anzac Day memorial prayer service, a special time to remember those who served and sacrificed for our country.
To further honour Pope Francis's life and legacy, our staff led a touching liturgy last Friday morning. It was a special opportunity for the children to reflect on his teachings and his positive impact on our world.

Good Shepherd Sunday – May 11, 2025 This Fourth Sunday of Easter highlights Jesus as the Good Shepherd, the one who knows, guides, and protects His flock. It’s also a day traditionally dedicated to fostering and praying for vocations.
We share this image of our diocesan seminarians to help keep their faces familiar and remind us to support them through prayer and encouragement as they discern and prepare for the priesthood. May the Lord continue to bless them in their generous “yes” to His call.

Special Dates to Remember in Term 2:
Monday 12th May - 9:30am Mothers Day Liturgy - Infants ( Kinder - Year 2) - School Hall. Followed by morning tea with children.
Sunday 18th May - Catholic Schools Week 2025
A special Mass will be held on Sunday, May 18, at the Cathedral, starting at 10 am, to kick off Catholic Schools Week. We invite all our school and parish community members to join us for this occasion, celebrated at Cathedral St. Michael & St. John. If you plan to attend this special Mass, we are looking for 3-4 Primary children to be the HFS representatives welcoming the congregation to the Cathedral and handing out song sheets. We also need 2 HFS students for the Procession of the Gifts. Please email me or contact the school if your children can fulfil either of these ministeries as representatives of HFS at the Catholic Schools Mass.

STAFF FAREWELL - Mrs Jenny Wilds

After 25 incredible years of service, we say a heartfelt farewell to Jenny Wilds as she retires from her role in our school office. Jenny has been the friendly face and steady hand behind so much of what keeps our school running smoothly. Her dedication, care, warmth, and unwavering work ethic have left a lasting mark on our school community.
From her calm presence during the busiest of days to her kind words that lifted staff, students, and parents alike, Jenny has been more than a colleague—she’s been family. Her attention to detail and genuine concern for others set a standard we’ve all admired and learned from.
As Jenny begins this new chapter of her life, we wish her all the joy, rest, and adventure that retirement brings. Thank you, Jenny, for everything. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

Encourage your child to walk their bikes across roads and intersections for added safety. Riders should stick to the left-hand side, travel at a safe speed, and stay alert to traffic and pedestrians.
Let’s work together to ensure every child arrives at school and home safely!
